Fishing Report: “Caught Dinner”

Roger, Robbie and I braved the cold and wind to head out to Eastern Dry Rocks today and get some dinner. It was a bit chilly early on, but the fishing was good right from the get go- first cast was a keeper Yellowtail. Caught plenty of Yellowtail and Porgies and added a couple Mutton Snapper. Blue Runners were plentiful and Robbie landed a Spanish Mackerel. Saw a lot of Sea Turtles out there today along with a big pod of Dolphin, looked like 20 or so.

Looking forward to warmer weather, but it was good to get back out on the water. Now I must sign off and get ready for some fresh fish for dinner, see ya.

Monday fun fishing, 2/15/2010 President’s Day

Well, the weather has blown for the last couple weeks, but today was nice and warm and calm, so my buddy Eric talked me into taking off a little early to just do some fun fishing. We took some damaged boxes of Sardines and Ballyhoo from the freezer and headed out to some easy to reach spots south of the island. We picked a bad tide-there wasn’t any, but we tried a little bit of everything to bring up some fish. We caught a handful of grunts, a dozen or so Lane Snapper and one loan Mangrove Snapper. But the fun was catching a couple of Lemon Sharks and one Black Tip. They fought us well on the light tackle we had. That Black Tip was not happy and really wanted a few of my fingers as payback.

We got the most bites on the Spanish Sardines, but the 4 ft. Lemon hit on a whole Ballyhoo on a Bomber Jig.

Didn’t really catch dinner (had a burger), but it sure beat working…..

13th and 14th Fish report

Joe spoke with Capt. Moe off the Reel Lucky and he took a private charter out and got 26 tuna yesterday. Needless to say, everyone had a great time.

Spoke with Capt. Barry off the Eva Marie and they had a good trip today: 2 Sailfish, 4 Dolphin and a ton of Kingfish, Cero and Spanish Mackerel.

1/13 Fishing report

Spoke with Capt. Teddy of the Lethal Weapon today. He told me they had a great trip this morning. A large number of Crevalle Jacks and Barracuda (most over 20lbs) hit first with plenty of Kingfish, too. They ended the trip with an 80lbs Sailfish. Everyone was very happy after that one.

The cold seems to be breaking and more people were out fishing today. I’ll spread the word as I get it.

Dec 26 trip

Capt. Moe off the Reel Lucky reports that they caught 2 Tuna, 2 King’s and a Flag Yellowtail among many others.

Season is heating up and the fishing is good, so I should be able to get more and better reports out from now on.

tuna, dolphin and more

Spoke with Capt. Tim off the Time Out. He said he had 8 Tuna and 4 Dolphin on Sunday. One bull at 35 and a cow at 22.

Other reports have the Sailfish biting good, too.

The fishing from shore has been good this week with live shrimp or pinfish reported as the best bait.

Looks like a front will blow through over the weekend and cool things way down, so we’ll see how that changes the fishing.

Eva Marie trip 12/8/2009

Spoke with Capt James of the Eva Marie and his crew today after their trip. They caught Kingfish, mackerel, and bonita, but the guys said they had more fun catching a bunch of big Jacks. It seemed like everyone had a great time.

Wahoo!

I was walking the docks today and saw the mate for the Lucky Strike with 2 very big Wahoo. Didn’t get a chance to talk to Capt. Keith, but it must have been a good half day charter.

Fishing report for last week 12/1 to 12/4

Sorry, I forgot to post this Friday. All reports were that the fishing was great last week. Both casual fishermen and the charter boats had great days. Capt Tim from Time Out took out a crew to the marquesas and just slammed them. Snappers, Groupers, Mackerel were the main stays, but he told me they caught a little bit of everything. Spoke briefly to Capt Moe who went out to the Tortugas with Capt Teddy on the Lethal Weapon and he told me they had Dolphin, Sailfish, Cobia, and more. He had plenty of fillets to prove it.

Other customers reported good luck with Wahoo and Tuna. Somebody, I can’t remember who, told me they had a couple really nice sized Kingfish, too. All the trolling was done in close to the reef out to about 250 feet.

The fishing from shore was good last week too as many anglers reported back that live shrimp were really bringing the bite. I heard Mangrove Snapper, Grunts, Cudas, Jacks and much more were biting in the Harbor area.

The weather looks good for the week ahead, so good luck out there.

It always seemed to be busy at the shop when people came in and gave me reports (I’m happy about that), but I’ll try to get some more specific info as season moves along and I get better at writing things down!

11/30 Fishing report

Offshore reports are that the Sailfish, Wahoo and Tuna are biting. Comments I got from mates, captains and other customers was that these fish were plentiful. One report was of 7 Sailfish caught on one boat. Most were fishing just off the reef. Reports I got were 200-250 feet.

Weather looks OK for the next couple of days, so we’ll try and get some more info tomorrow……..
